Hey everyone,
Kind of sucks that I didn't get to see anyone at the convention this year. I honestly don't go for the convention itself anyway. My attendance is really motivated by the prospects of good hang-outage. Anyway, here is your con-missing consolation prize (as if you needed one).
Bye.

This is going to sound strange, but bare with me.
Many people have memories or other nostalgic feelings associated with various senses, yet sometimes one memory can encompass several senses. For some reason one of the clearest memories and most nostalgic memories I have (because it's associated with three senses) is of watching the anime X in my living room (dimly lit), listening to the ending song, and smelling the scent of our brand new leather sofa. Even now, when I plum the depths of the aforementioned leathery escarpment, I may open a previously unexposed nook and catch a whiff of the still present new sofa smell. This instantly transports me back to a quiet evening with X's ending theme, a new sofa, and a dim room, the warm glow of a single lamp barely illuminating the surroundings to the point of visibility.
I know that it sounds strange, but sometimes something strikes you a certain way and leaves a lasting impression. To be honest, I'm more concerned about that fact that I'm posting this on live journal than I am about the fact that one of my most nostalgic memories is centered on X, new leather, and a dark room.

Yeesh, I mowed the lawn today. Normally nothing worth posting about happens when I mow the lawn; however, this time things happened a bit differently. For one, I created a ( huge pile of grass clippings ). That isn't quite so strange as what happened at the end. I was just wheeling the mower back to empty it and put it away when some variety of winged insect flew directly into my mouth. My mouth was barely open. Weird.

First off, here's what was in my sketch book when I got home... most of the art is in Micheel's.
( The Goods )
I'm also going to take this opportunity to rant about consoles. Yeigh!
First of all, I don't think that the price difference between the Wii and the PS3 is going to make too much of a difference. I think that if someone wants one or the other they will buy it. We all know that there are enough people in Nintendo's camp and enough people in Sony's camp that there will be people aplenty to rush out and buy every single console that comes in when the consoles are released. The other side to this coin is: a lot of gamers are "Well, I want the console, but I'm going to wait until the price goes down" people. Gamers aren't going to need to do that with the Wii as much as the PS3. I think that since the Wii's price is more than reasonable not only will the diehards go for the throat, I think that the casual folks are going to have a stab at it as soon as there are units available. I suspect, on the other hand, that the PS3's sales are going to boom at the beginning like the Wii's, but will slow down faster, or Sony will have to drop the price a tad. Sure, there are people who see the powerful console as an investment (EG, their console won't be obsolete as quickly) but I don't think that's the majority of the people, and consoles aren't really obsolete until games aren't made for them anymore... or until they aren't fun to play, since entertainment is a console's single purpose, consoles aren't truly obsolete until they aren't fun to play anymore. Which would make the NES more cutting edge than the Gamecube (BURN!!!)
At any rate the Wii's price is much more attractive to me. It's a more unique console to boot. I also predict that the Wii is going to have an awesome array of console exclusive games (Nintendo's first party game production being what it is.) Of course, I think Sony is at a disadvantage game production-wise. Nintendo is established with a sterling reputation as a game developer as much as they are a console maker. Microsoft game studios has one of the best arrays of in-house studios on the planet (Bungie, Ensemble, Lionhead, FASA, Rare, Turn 10, Aces... need I write more?) It seems that Sony, while receiving the support of several third party game developers, isn't quite on par with the competition.
And despite much exclusive content being made for 360 and Wii many of the games (that I care about) that are coming out on PS3 are also going to be on (or already are on) the 360. In order to save $600 I am willing, as ludicrous as this may sound to some people, I would gladly take a downgrade in graphical quality. Besides, I'm honestly more interested in the Wii and 360 exclusive titles anyway. Red steel, Twilight princess, super swing golf, Halo 3, Gears of war, Halo wars, Wii sports, Portals and Fable 2 all interest me more than Final Fantasies XIII-XX.
Granted the PS3 is an extremely impressive piece of hardware. It just looks like (based on the games that have been thus far displayed) Sony isn't getting exemplary developer support this time around. Out of the four games that have probably been touted the most for the PS3 only 1 stimulates the salivary glands with the vigor I would hope for. That is, of course, heavenly blade. Final Fantasy XIII has really sexy graphics, but I can't help imagining that it's going to have usual unsweetened gruel Squaresoft gameplay. Genji: Day of the blade looks like it sucks. It looked like it would suck back at E3, it looked like it would suck at TGS, and now ladies and gentlemen it still looks like it sucks. The final nail in the coffin of course would be playing it for myself, but the mediocre acclaim it received will suffice until then. Now, out of all of those games the one I don't know what to think of is Resistance: Fall of man. It's got sweet graphics, and it looks like it has sweet guns. It just looks like Insomniac studios kind of shuffled off it's usual line of work. I'm sorry, ratchet and clank aren't exactly games that make you excited about a FPS by the same studio. When I look at the screenshots for the game I can't help but feeling that ID software is going to sue them. Resistance looks like it could almost be called "Return to castle Quakendoom."
This isn't an attack on Sony fueled primarily by bias. I just honestly think that the Wii is what I'm going to use to get my japanese game fix for this console generation. I got all sorts of fun out of the PS2; in fact, I preferred the PS2 to the Gamecube in no uncertain terms.

There is one more picture that needs to be posted, but, according to the Livejournal TOS, it will need some editing before it can be posted. My scanner also doesn't scan unused paper so if there was only a portion of a piece of paper used then the scanner resized it automatically, so some pictures look huge while others don't.
( So without further ado )
